“Get Lucky” -Daft Punk ft. Pharrell Williams

For Love & Lemons

“Derived from those sun-soaked “Lemonade Stand Days, designers, owners, and BFF’s Gillian Mahin and Laura Hall are the masterminds behind the line For Love & Lemons. Born in Wyoming, and now based in Los Angeles, the collection is anything but conventional – rebelling against the standards of modern society.  The line taunts with intrigue as a clash of colors and patterns are evoked by chic separates and devious dresses. Where the modern gypsy is punk, For Love & Lemons is a brand to relate to, for that girl that doesn’t follow trends, she makes them.” Collections can be viewed HERE

The Child Of Lov – “Fly”

“The Child of Lov heads back to the future as both modern soul man and funk revivalist on his self- titled debut album soon to be released on Double Six. It possesses a nostalgic reverence for the heavyweight roots of early trailblazers like Little Richard, Otis Redding and James Brown and as well as a penchant for the later neo soul of Dilla and D’Angelo. The Child of Lov certifies his scholarly underpinnings with a consummate cool that makes him feel like the rightful successor in the long line of important soulful beings.” (doublesixrecords)

According to E! Online, Beyoncé and André 3000 will be covering the late Amy Winehouse’s “Back To Black” for the forthcoming adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. While Winehouse’s original is great, a record company source said that the cover is a “very different take” on the song. Needless to say, we’re looking forward to hearing the soundtrack in its entirety, especially considering thatJay-Z is composing the score for the film. The Great Gatsby will premiere on May 15. Chloë Sevigny’s 90s Throwback

NOWNESS’s  special on Chloë Sevigny featuring a fashion home movie and a Q&A between Chloë and Christopher Bollen, editor-at-large for Interview magazine. Part 1 can be viewed Here and Part 2 can be viewed Here

“Shooting in the late 90s during one of Chloë Sevigny’s visits from New York City to London, photographer and filmmaker Michael Cleary enlisted super-stylist Alister Mackie, then a fellow student, to collaborate on Surface, an intimate film starring the future Oscar and Golden Globe nominee. Air-guitaring, playing dress-up and flitting in and out of a fragile waking dream, Sevigny was at the time an emerging ingénue, fresh from having starred in Larry Clark’s Kids, the film that cemented her position as one of the icons of her generation. “A lot was going on in her life at the time; she was getting into films and Hollywood,” says the director, who edited the never-before-seen 16mm film—which now features specially commissioned title art by Brooklyn musician and artist Hisham Bharoocha—into raw, black-and-white vignettes in the basement of Central Saint Martins. “We were just using what we had around,” adds Mackie. “It was the last revolutionary period in fashion where things actually changed.” In this first installment of our two-day celebration of the 90s as seen through Sevigny’s eyes, Interview magazine Editor-at-Large Christopher Bollen muses on his friend, the decades most enduring symbol.”  READ MORE

Caught A Ghost – “Sleeping At Night”

Jesse Nolan, the bands founder and leader, on the “Sleeping at Night” video:

“The ‘Sleeping at Night’ video, is, like everything I seem to do, a love letter to Los Angeles. Truthfully, there are so many faces to Los Angeles, so many split personalities, that you never run out of people to fall in love with. It necessitates documentation.

“Some of the people in the video I just ran into on the street in the fashion district downtown. Others I’ve known for years, a few for my whole life. Russ Tamblyn, who holds the rather legendary status of having played Riff in the original film Westside Story, has been a family friend since I can remember. My Great Aunt Carol, who has an amazing fashion sense, I’ve also known since birth.

“When I had the thought to make a humanist video for this song, I naturally cycled through all the people in my life who I think are incredible in some way, to mine their strong personalities to tell my story. Performance artist Nicole Disson makes an appearance, as well as my friend Carl, an elderly gentleman who always comes to see my dad’s band play dressed to the nines.

“The lyrics of the song were not necessarily inspired by the struggle of the every man. In fact, some lines were inspired by frustration at dear friends who couldn’t get their shit together. But the overall spirit of the song is one that’s optimistic. It’s about wanting to see people do their best.”

The Wolverine – Official Trailer

“Hugh Jackman reprises his role as rogue hero mutant Wolverine in the latest installment of the X-Men series. The movie finds Wolverine in the Japan, removed from his former role as a reluctant hero on a mission for vengeance. He is recruited by a powerful man, one whose life he saved decades ago, who makes Wolverine a seemingly impossible offer. As expected, the trailer is packed with thrilling quick cuts of fighting on top of bullet trains, plenty of silverware, and other gratuitous action. Look for The Wolverinein theaters July 26.”

Blu – York (Album Stream)

With feature appearances from notable guests like Pac Div and J*Davey, in addition to production stylings from veterans like Exile, Flying Lotus, Madlib, Shafiq Husayn and more, it is no wonder that some are calling York a masterpiece.”
